Program Overview Birdies for Charity is a fundraising program designed to give participants an opportunity to generate contributions based on the number of “birdies” made by PGA TOUR players during the Sanderson Farms Championship. With 1,858 birdies made in 2012, Birdies for Charity raised nearly $191,000 for Mississippi charities. “Bonus Bucks” are back this year! This year, our goal is to generate $250,000 through Birdies for Charity. For more information on how to pledge or become a charity please contact Renee’ D’Agostino at 601-898-4653.

Every birdie made during the Sanderson Farms Championship means bucks for charity! Make a pledge and 100% of your donation will go directly to the charity of your choice. There are two ways to pledge:
A per-birdie amount for every birdie made by the PGA TOUR players during the Sanderson Farms Championship, or A one-time flat donation Minimum per-birdie $.02 Minimum flat donation $ 10 Birdies made in 2012 1,858 Birdies made in 20011 1,907 Birdies made in 2010 1,619
Birdies made in 2009 1,789
For example, a pledge of $.02 per birdie: $.02 x 1858 birdies in 2012 = $37.16 The number of birdies can fluctuate due to unforeseeable conditions.
What is a birdie
A “birdie” is a score of one stroke better than “par” for any golf hole on the course. “Par” is the normal expected score of a golf professional on any given hole. For example, on a par 4 hole, a score of 3 is a birdie.
To create additional excitement for the program, The Sanderson Farms Championship will sponsor a “Guess the Birdies” contest. Participants who commit to a minimum pledge or donation or complete an official pledge form are eligible to guess the number of birdies that will be made by PGA TOUR players Wednesday through Sunday of the Sanderson Farms Championship. The individual who correctly guesses the number of birdies made will win a year’s supply of delicious, 100% natural Sanderson Farms Chicken … grilled, smoked, kabobed, casseroled … cooked 100’s of different ways on your new XL Big Green Egg! The XL’s cooking area can easily accommodate meals for large families and cookouts with all your friends. (You can even cook 11 whole chickens at once!) Of course, you also get all the EGGcessories you need to make cooking on your new Egg an EGGcellent experience!
“Bonus Bucks” are back this year. Bonus Bucks are an extra incentive for participating organizations to generate as many pledges as they can. Their fundraising efforts may be rewarded with more money than the pledges collected. In 2013 Bonus Bucks will have a format where $30,000 will be proportionally split among all charities that collect a minimum of $3,000. The Bonus Bucks program will be based on a pro-rata system. Example: Twelve charities meet the requirements for Bonus Bucks, and the total collected amount for these charities is $200,000. Charity A collects $20,000 or 10% of the total $200,000. Charity A then receives 10% ($3,000) of the $30,000 Bonus Bucks. In all, charity A would receive $23,000 from the Birdies For Charity program.
How to become a participating charity Applications for participation will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
- Must have 501(c)(3) status as recognized by the IRS
- Registered charity that legally accepts tax deductible charitable donations
- Registered with the Mississippi Secretary of State
- Meet the Better Business Bureau standards for charitable solicitation
All participating charities are subject to approval by Century Club Charities, Inc.
